Help! I'm Sick!

Holy sickness.

Seems like everyone on the planet is sick right now. INCLUDING ME! I never get sick! (which isn’t necessarily a good thing)

I got a fever for the first time in years.

I have a swollen gland which I refuse to share any photos of. Just believe me… it’s BAD. It looks like I’ve been hit in the face by cement truck :) fun times.

I thought this would be a good opportunity to share some of my favourite supplements and tricks for dealing with a cold, flu, or fever.

Here we goooo!

Grapefruit seed extract

This one comes with a warning… It tastes like rubber that has been set on fire and then left to ferment in a trash bin for a couple of weeks.

I hate it.

But I love it.

It is a very strong antioxidant. It’s also great for healing any infections and viruses.

Mix it with a small glass of some sweet juice (and I mean SWEET)

Camu Camu Powder

This is a shrub that grows in the amazon. Luckily, we can buy it from most health food stores in the form of powder.

Camu Camu has an insane amount of vitamin C in it. Vitamin C is a classic nutrient known for boosting our immune system and to help with oxidative stress in the body.

This powder has about 60 times more Vit. C than an orange. WHOA!

My favourite way to use it is by adding it in a smoothie. It can produce a slight sour taste so it’s best to hide it in something fruity. :)

Stay away from cooling foods

Eating cold foods when you’re sick is like throwing cold water onto fire. It defeats the purpose.

Be intuitive with this. Cucumbers, ice cream, mint, zucchini, sweet fruits and cold drinks are going to make your body cooler. We don’t want this when we are dealing with a cold or low immunity.

When our bodies are dealing with low immunity, a great way to support it is with nourishment from warm foods.

Some warm foods to add in:

Ginger, cinnamon, turmeric, soups and stews, leaks, mushrooms, onions, carrots, brown rice, brown lentils, kidney beans, warm water with lemon.

Rest

I always feel guilty for staying in bed all day long and not being “productive”. When we’re sick our body is using SO MUCH ENERGY to fight off our sickness. If we ignore this process and push ourselves you can very well prolong the process. You might even find yourself crashing 10 times harder. Or, if you’re like me, you’ll end up with a low grade cold for 6 months straight!

Allow yourself this time to recoup and get well.

Your emails can wait.

Your friends will understand if you cancel. (if they don’t, find new friends)

If you need extra help, ask for it.

Don’t try to be a hero.

I could list things forever but that’s it for now!

If there are any topics you would like me to discuss let me know!
